Calin Georgescu – First Round Court Winner of Presidential Election in Romania
Karin Georgek – The winner of the presidential election cancelled by the Romanian constitutional court – detention. Controversial politicians will be brought to questioning “as part of a broader election-related investigation,” local media said.
According to Romanian media, Karin Georgek was detained while he intended to register for a candidacy in the scheduled repeat elections on May 4th.
Calin Georgescu is being investigated by the General Prosecutor’s Office, accused of joining fascist organisations and promoting controversial ideology and historical figures in public spaces such as Antonescu. The action took place on the same day he conducted dozens of searches at Mercenary Group Horatsiu Proto, head of the Georgescu Protection team.

Earlier Wednesday, investigators reported that they had conducted 47 searches of people and associations associated with controversial politicians as part of a broader criminal investigation into several allegations, including fraud in relation to funding campaigns and activities against the constitutional order. Georgescu is not currently considered suspicious.
During their search for services, they found weapons, acute ammunition, and over $1 million hidden in safes. BGNEST’s press reminds us that Georgescu has become an unexpected winner of the first round of the presidential election, but the Romanian Constitutional Court has negated these results after confidential documents from the current presidential office showed irregularity during the election.

The paper also included an explanation of Georgek’s mass promotions on social networks during the period before voting.
The presidential candidate himself has denied any ties with Moscow. Annul’s decision came two days before the second round of the poll, scheduled for December 8th. Georgescu initially had low support and declared zero campaign costs.
In mid-February, Romania’s current president announced his resignation. By explaining his decision, Klaus Iohanis said the step was to prevent the country from becoming a political crisis. His duty was to take over Senate Illy Borojan’s chairman from the National Liberal Party in accordance with the constitution.
