There is a basis for “cautious optimism” – the Kremlin said after Steve Witkoff’s visit on Thursday. Donald Trump’s envoy spoke with Vladimir Putin about the conditions for halting Ukrainian weapons. The Russian leader gave a message to the US president.
“The Kremlin on Friday told US President Vladimir Putin that he sent a message to US President Donald Trump about his proposal to suspend Ukrainian weapons through Trump’s envoy,” Reuters said. As added, there is a basis for “cautious optimism.”
This is Moscow’s first official message after Thursday’s meeting.

– There is certainly a reason for cautionary optimism. Yesterday you heard a very important statement from President Putin answering a journalist’s questions. He said he supports President Trump’s position on the deal, but he asked a few questions so that he could answer together – said Dmitry Piekov, a Kremlin spokesman, on Friday.
– Yes, certainly, there’s still a lot to do, but nonetheless, the president has expressed solidarity with Trump’s position – he added.
Russia. Putin spoke with Trump’s envoy
The plane landed at Moscow Thursday morning, along with Steve Witkoff, the US President’s envoy on board.
The Middle Eastern envoy Witkov is beginning to play an increasingly important role in the US-Russia conversations about the end of Ukrainian hostilities.

On Wednesday, the Trump administration was to present the Kremlin with details of its 30-unit proposal. Previously, the Ukrainians agreed to the American proposal.
According to Reuters, the Russians were to send a list of their terms to the White House. The Kremlin did not confirm this information.
