Greenland has a new premiere. That’s Jens-Frederik Nielsen, 33, from the Democratic Party. According to the media, the new Greenland government is facing difficult four-year terminology in relation to US pressure.
Jens-Frederik Nielsen, 33-year-old from the Democratic Party, was sworn in as Prime Minister Greenland on Monday.
Nielsen and its allied government are made up of three other groups. Left-wing Inuit Atakatigit (IA), Siumut and the conservative Social Democrats received 23 votes in the 31 Mandart uniform assembly. In his opposition, he only supports a quick announcement from the notary party, supporting independence from Denmark and close cooperation with the United States.
“Greenland belongs to its residents.”
Such widespread support for the government stems from the “need to have a strong obligation” to oppose Greenland’s claim proposed by US President Donald Trump, who announced the island’s takeover, according to comments from Danish media. The Nielsen-led Democrats support Greenland’s independence from Denmark, but are in favor of strengthening the economic foundations of this process. Today, the island’s economy is based on subsidies from Denmark and income from fishing.

Meanwhile, according to the media, the Greenland government is made up of four political parties with different pedigrees and is subject to internal conflict. The Union Agreement emphasizes that “Greenland belongs to its inhabitants,” and the Greenland government, not Copenhagen, should be making a critical voice on international issues regarding the Arctic Circle. Negotiations are expected to be made about expanding the island’s autonomy. The Safety Chapter ensures that the island is part of the “Western Alliance.”
Greenland. A new government has been chosen
Before his new term took office, its members walked around the town of Nook in traditional Greenland costumes and greeted the residents.
Jens-Frederik Nielsen, 33, is the youngest prime minister in Greenland’s history and has no experience in foreign policy. From 2020-21 he was Minister of Labor and Mineral Resources in the Government of Greenland. The politician is a graduate of the Social Sciences of the University of Greenland and is also a multiple champion of the badminton island.
