For the second year in a row, U.S. News & World Report ranked Florida the top state for education, followed by Utah and Massachusetts.
In its May 7 online edition, the magazine cited “several strong indicators” in Florida's higher education performance and its “fairly strong” performance in kindergarten through 12th grade, ranking the state 10th.
“Florida's focus on core academic subjects and excellence in the classroom puts it ahead of other states,” Education Secretary Manny Diaz Jr. said in response to the rankings.
Diaz also pointed out that Florida ranked first in the Center for Education Reform's recent “Parent Power Index,” which focuses on alternative pathways and education options available to parents and students outside of traditional public schools.
