The Yankees lost the second game of a doubleheader against the Angels yesterday, moving them into a tie with the Orioles in the American League standings. With two shaky pitchers today, MLB Predictions encourages you to consider the Over as your best bet.

Following last night's doubleheader, this will be the final game of a three-game series between the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Angels.
The Yankees split the two games, which was to be expected, as neither New York nor the Baltimore Orioles seemed keen to gain an advantage in the race for the division title.
The two teams have been tied for first place in the AL East for what feels like a lifetime, separated by just one game, and today they meet with identical records, meaning today's game against the Angels will be another important one for the Yankees.

8.5 or higher (+100 on FanDuel)
My Analysis
This total is way too low, and when you consider that the median points scored in the last 10 head-to-head matches is only 8, it's easy to see why. I predicted this number at 9.2 and am happy to pick the over as my best bet tonight.
Tyler Anderson will take the mound for the Los Angeles Angels, and I've written periodically all season that he would be a good candidate to fade away later this season. Why? Because Anderson had the widest gap between his actual and expected ERA, meaning regression was coming, and it was just a matter of when.
At least, it's starting to happen to some extent. Anderson has been hit and had mixed results in his last three games, and the New York Yankees should be able to take great advantage of this power-hitting aspect. Anderson, you come into tonight with a fastball scoring rating that's in the bottom 30% of baseball. I've said it before, and I've said it a thousand times, but being a fastball-heavy pitcher against the Yankees is not a very good thing. But it's especially bad when your fastball isn't good. Expect the Yankees offense to take advantage of this and score a good chunk of our scoring total.
Nestor Cortes, on the other hand, has been consistently below average for the Yankees this season. His last three starts are indicative of what he's been up to this season: 3 earned runs in 5.1 innings against the Philadelphia Phillies, 4 earned runs in 4.7 innings against the Boston Red Sox, and 6 earned runs in 4.1 innings against the Tampa Bay Rays. If he can perform anywhere near those numbers, he should be in the money here. I think he has a chance.
The Angels haven't performed particularly well against left-handed pitchers this season, but their predictions have been spot on. What's most interesting about this matchup is that Los Angeles' hard-hit rate increases significantly when facing lefties, with a hard-hit rate of 33.7%, fifth-best in baseball.
The biggest issue for Cortes, who takes the mound tonight, is that his hard-hit rate is in the bottom 10% of baseball, which is a problem for him.

Jo Adell hits a home run
Our best bet is to get Jo Adell to team up with the yard, which is too much value to pass up.
Adell holds the unique distinction of boasting the highest slugging percentage among Angels players this season and the fifth-best isolated power rating against lefties. At a price point above +500, it's hard to overlook him against Cortes. After all, he has allowed multiple home runs in more than half of his last 10 starts.

Angels vs Yankees spread and over/under analysis
The recent matchup has been very competitive, with both teams holding 5-5 records in their last 10 games. New York is on a roll, winning 8 of their last 10 games and scoring big runs in consecutive games, giving bettors a +4.2 profit. The Yankees, as is now commonplace, are once again taking early profits. After opening at odds as low as -220 in some places, bettors are pushing that number down to a near-universal -260 at best. Los Angeles is not doing awful, but they have lost 7 of their last 10 games, giving them a net loss of just over 2 units.
Angels vs Yankees
The New York Yankees have hit the moneyline in eight of their last 10 games (+4.10 units / 23% ROI). See more MLB betting trends for Angels vs Yankees.
