Rodriguez's death was announced by Senator Carmelo Javier Rios of his native Puerto Rico. Rodriguez said he learned to play golf by hitting tin cans with a guava stick, then found work as a caddie. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955-57 and joined the PGA Tour in 1960, winning eight times and playing on one Ryder Cup team during his 21-year career.

After finishing third, Lyles collapsed on her back, writhing in pain and lay there for nearly 30 seconds before getting up, asking for water and climbing into a wheelchair. Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone broke her own record in the women's 400-meter hurdles to win gold again. In the 110-meter hurdles, Grant Holloway and Danielle Roberts took first and second place for the United States. Tara Davis-Uhaul of the United States won gold in the long jump.

CrossFit CEO Don Fall said at a press conference that the organization was “deeply saddened” by the death of one of its swimmers Thursday morning. Fort Worth Fire Department officials said they were called to assist police after “an athlete was in the water and had not been seen for some time.” Officials identified the athlete as 28-year-old Lazar Dukic. According to Dukic's biography on the CrossFit website, he was the third-ranked CrossFit athlete in Serbia and 88th in the world.
Search launched in Pennsylvania after alligator spotted swimming off Lake Erie
ERIE, Pa. (AP) — A search is underway in Erie, Pennsylvania, for a small alligator after it was captured on video swimming just off the shore of Lake Erie last weekend. Animal rescue experts have been searching the area since it was first spotted Sunday. Possible footprints and other sightings have been reported in recent days. It's unclear how the alligator ended up in the freshwater lake, but authorities believe it may have been a pet. Officials say it's against Pennsylvania law to release alligators, an invasive species, into the wild.
Florida sheriff's deputies rescue missing 5-year-old autistic boy from pond
DELTONA, Fla. (AP) — A Florida sheriff's deputy heard the screams of a missing 5-year-old autistic boy and ran into the woods, stripped off his bulletproof vest and jumped into a pond. Volusia County Sheriff's Deputy Wes Brough picked up the boy and walked him back to dry land Tuesday evening in Deltona, where the boy's arms were tightly wrapped around Brough's neck. Sheriff's officials said the family realized the boy was missing and called 911. The deputy knew the boy was attracted to water and ran to a nearby pond. Brough heard the boy's screams and grabbed him.
New York City driver charged with throwing lit fireworks into truck, injuring two workers
NEW YORK (AP) — A New York City driver has been arrested and charged with throwing a lit firework at a Verizon truck in an apparent act of road rage, injuring two workers, according to federal prosecutors. Authorities say Kevindale Nurse was driving through Brooklyn on Jan. 31 when he blocked the path of a Verizon truck, prosecutors said. Nurse's 4-year-old son was with him when he pulled next to the truck and threw an explosive device inside, injuring several workers and causing extensive damage to the truck, prosecutors said. Nurse has pleaded not guilty and was ordered detained at a hearing in Brooklyn federal court on Thursday. His lawyer declined to comment.
Samsung is recalling more than one million electric ranges after numerous reports of fires and injuries.
NEW YORK (AP) — Samsung is recalling more than 1.12 million electric cooktop stoves after reports of 250 fires and dozens of injuries. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, these slide-in stoves have knobs on the front that can accidentally activate if a human or pet accidentally touches or bumps into them, creating a fire hazard. The recalled stoves were sold between May 2013 and August 2024 at Samsung.com online stores and at retailers nationwide, including Best Buy, Costco, Home Depot and Lowe's. Consumers who own recalled stoves are urged to contact Samsung Electronics America to get a free set of knob locks or covers compatible with their models.
