World Golf Hall of Fame member Juan “Chichi” Rodriguez has passed away at the age of 88, the PGA Tour announced. Announced On Thursday.
The cause of death has not been revealed.
Rodriguez, a native of Puerto Rico, made his PGA Tour debut in 1960. He won eight times during his 21-year career on the tour, including 22 victories on the Senior Tour.
He was also a member of the winning U.S. Ryder Cup team in 1973.
Rodriguez was inducted into the PGA World Golf Hall of Fame in 1992.
The PGA Tour described Rodriguez as “a showman on the course and a tireless philanthropist off it.”
“Chichi Rodriguez's passion for philanthropy and advocacy is unmatched by his incredible talent with a golf club in his hands,” PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said in a statement. “A vibrant and colorful personality on and off the golf course, Rodriguez's absence will be a great loss for the PGA Tour and the lives of those he touched in his mission of community service. The PGA Tour offers its deepest condolences to the entire Rodriguez family during this difficult time.”
