Sony Group has announced that PlayStation Studios aims to release hit games “consistently and continuously.” To achieve this, Sony Interactive Entertainment is working to improve its development process and release schedule.
PlayStation Studios to develop games under new management structure
Sony has previously acknowledged that it was struggling to maintain sustainable profit margins despite PlayStation Studios releasing best-selling games, and has announced a restructuring of its PlayStation division. As part of that process, more than 900 positions were cut and a new management structure was put in place under co-CEOs Herman Hulst and Nishino Hideaki.
Sony yesterday announced its fiscal 2024 first-quarter results, telling investors during an earnings conference call that “in our Studio Business Group, we are strengthening development schedule management and optimizing development projects in order to steadily and continuously release hit titles.”
Meanwhile, Sony's Platform Business Division is focusing on “maintaining and expanding” the number of active PlayStation users and strengthening user engagement, and has set “establishing a stable revenue base” as its top priority.
While PlayStation didn't release any big first-party blockbusters this year, it did release a fair few console exclusives, with three smaller first-party games scheduled for fall 2024: Concord, Astro Bot, and Lego Horizon Adventures.
