NEW YORK — A Staten Island Little League team is going to the World Series.
South Shore Little League handed itself its first loss of the summer with a 5-0 victory over Morristown Little League of New Jersey in the Metro Region championship game on Friday. Peter Giacchio's two-run triple in the sixth inning capped a week in which the team scored nine runs in four games.
Staten Island improved to 17-2 this summer.
This will be South Shore Little League’s fourth time competing in the Little League World Series.
“Continue to make great memories and make Staten Island proud — we're all with you,” Staten Island Borough President Vito Fossella said in a Facebook post.
“A home run for South Shore Little League! They're on their way to the Little League World Series and we're all rooting for them!” Mayor Eric Adams wrote to X.
Staten Island Little League team plays Nevada team in World Series
South Shore Little League will play Paseo Verde Little League of Nevada on Thursday, August 15th at 3pm.
Nationally, a viewing party will be held at the Fast Break Basketball Facility on Richmond Valley Road in Tottenville. Admission is free and food will be provided. Doors open at 2 p.m.
South Shore Little League isn't the only New York team heading to Williamsport, Pa., this month, as the Yankees will take on the Detroit Tigers on Sunday, Aug. 18, at Historic Bowman Field in the MLB Little League Classic.
