The professional wrestling world continues to mourn the loss of legendary wrestler Kevin Sullivan.
Sullivan, 74, died on Friday in Florida after battling an infection.
His death came just over a month after news broke that Sullivan was battling serious health issues and struggling financially. Veteran wrestling reporter Dave Meltzer said at the time that Sullivan had been “in a tough spot” over the past few months, battling sepsis and encephalitis. Meltzer said Sullivan had been “in a daze in the intensive care unit.”
A GoFundMe was set up to help cover expenses as Sullivan's insurance was about to expire, and he said he was in Florida for a signing session on May 12 when he “was involved in a tragic accident” and had to undergo “emergency surgery” to save his leg and his life.
Unfortunately, Sullivan never fully recovered.
Since then, many wrestling legends have paid tribute to him on social media.
Diamond Dallas Page posted on X that Sullivan's death was “truly heartbreaking.”
“I spoke to Ric Flair recently and he said Sully isn't doing well and I should give him a call,” the wrestler wrote.
Page said Sullivan was “a big part of my life.”
“I'm glad I got to talk to him before he passed away.”
“So sad to hear of the passing of Kevin Sullivan,” Flair also posted on X. “Rest in Peace Kevin! You were the greatest athlete and friend of all time.”
Jake “The Snake” Roberts praised Sullivan's “business mind” and said he is an “even greater person.”
“As a kid, I believed Kevin Sullivan was the devil,” Sean Waltman wrote, “and I continued to believe that was true after I got into this business. I was scared of him even when he was in WCW. He was awesome! I'm so grateful I got to know and work with Kevin during our time in the nWo and I'll miss him.”
There were many other such posts on the platform.
Sullivan's in-ring career began in 1970 and continued until 1997.
Perhaps his best-known role was as “The Taskmaster,” a heel in WCW from 1994-2001.
