A 30-year-old truck driver from Poland has been arrested in Germany after causing a series of accidents on the A1 motorway. The Polish man drove at high speed, crashing into dozens of cars, and did not stop even as police pursued him. At least 26 people were injured.
On Saturday afternoon, German police received a call about a truck driving dangerously on the A46 motorway near Neuss (North Rhine-Westphalia). Officers began pursuing the driver, who turned out to be a 30-year-old Polish national, according to media reports.
The man did not stop or respond to a stop sign. Instead, he sped up at the Wuppertal-Nord motorway junction, entered the A1 motorway and crashed into several cars near Gefelsberg.

The accident injured 26 people, eight of them seriously. The truck stopped across the road and police arrested the 30-year-old man. Nothing happened to the Poles and they were to be questioned by police on Sunday morning.
Bild's sources said the 30-year-old was driving under the influence and may have previously taken other psychoactive substances.

Fifty cars were damaged in the accident. Several firefighters, police and rescue teams were called to the scene. Cleanup work is still ongoing at the site. Some sections of the A1 motorway remain closed to traffic.
