People living in France may not be able to watch television on New Year’s Eve due to a fire that destroyed around 800,000 communication towers. The network operator assured that technicians were working on resolving the issue, but did not provide an exact repair time.
TV signals disappeared around 3 a.m. Tuesday in the towns of Mâcon and Bourg-en-Bresse, which are part of the Lyon metropolitan area.
TDF operators did not say how long repairs would take, but assured that work has continued since the fire was extinguished. “We hope to have TV signals restored by tonight,” the operator said in a statement.

In addition, the TDF statement said, “For some people, the only thing they have this holiday season is a television, which is their only source of information about the outside world.”
A major accident occurred in France. The problem isn’t just TV.
In addition to TV signals, some devices are unable to properly receive 3G, 4G, and 5G signals, but as TDF noted, this problem was more widespread. The carrier said major repair work could be carried out as early as next week, as the deadline for carrying out major repair work does not depend solely on the signal provider.

Villefranche-sur-Saône prosecutor Laetitia Frankard said initial findings suggest the fire was criminal in nature, as it was ignited by spilled fuel.
