On Sunday, several drones of unknown origin flew over the military airports of Manning and Neuburg an der Donau. Police reported finding 10 such objects in the air above the first base side, TV daily Tageschau reported.
According to the Bavarian Criminal Police, despite an intensive search, the person responsible for operating the machine could not be identified.
Investigators have not ruled out the possibility that the incident is related to espionage in the context of the war in Ukraine. “Flying drones over military areas is not only prohibited, but also dangerous, but it still happens,” Tageschau said.

So far, police have not been able to secure a single machine. Due to the number and size of the drones appearing in Munching, law enforcement authorities stress that they are not commercially available machines. – If these are indeed military drones, they could be launched outside Germany as well. One pilot will then be able to control 10 drones, a Bavarian government spokesperson told radio BR24.
From perpetrator to expert. “No one tries on Christmas presents”
Investigators suspect that the perpetrators were professionals whose sole purpose was to monitor military facilities. – If there are 10 drones flying at the same time, you should assume that no one is trying to get a Christmas present, – the police officer pointed out.
The Bundeswehr says flying drones over military airports poses a threat to pilots taking off and landing at ports, as well as local residents. Currently, only the police can intervene if a drone is spotted. However, work is underway to change German law to allow the Bundeswehr to take action itself.
Planes for the Air Force are tested in Munching. Airbus headquarters is also located there, and more Eurofighter jets are produced there. The 74th Tactical Air Force Squadron is stationed in the city of Neuburg an der Donau and monitors the airspace of southern Germany 24 hours a day. These units also support NATO operations such as air traffic control in the Baltic states.
