A fish with a “strange head,” an incredibly agile miniature squirrel, and an amphibious mouse with webbed feet are just some of the animals discovered by Peruvian researchers. The catalog of known species also includes at least 10 species of butterflies.
Scientists from Conservation International reported discovering 27 new animal species during their 2022 expedition. They were all located in the Altomayo Reserve in northern Peru.

A new species of animal has been discovered in Peru. Some strange fish
During the expedition, 48 other animals were discovered, which may also remain unknown, but further research is needed to confirm this. “Discovering so many new species is really surprising, especially in such an artificial landscape,” Larsen added, as quoted by the BBC.

The aforementioned squirrel is only 14 cm long, which is half the size of a common squirrel. It fits in the palm of your hand, has a “beautiful maroon color” and is extremely agile, as scientists say. However, the fish the research team encountered had a “very strange head” that resembled a “large, swollen nose.” I'm not sure why it looks like this.
A new species of amphibious rat that preys on aquatic insects and has webbed feet has also been discovered. In addition, currants were also discovered. The currant gets its name from the stiff hairs that protect it, resembling hedgehog spines.
