The Tesla Semi has been spotted in Europe around Germany, but it's unclear why as the vehicle isn't available in that region.
The Tesla Semi has officially been in “production” since late 2022, but it's still rare in the U.S., with only around 100 estimated to be in operation, mostly in California.
That's why it's surprising to see the Tesla Semi in Europe.
Tesla has previously talked about bringing the Tesla Semi to Europe, but acknowledged that the truck would need to be modified to comply with European regulations.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the truck will be produced at the company's Gigafactory in Berlin.
But Tesla is expected to start producing electric trucks first at a new factory being built outside Gigafactory Nevada near Reno.
The factory is expected to start producing the Tesla Semi by “late 2025.”
So why is the Tesla Semi in Europe now? Because it will be on display at the IAA show in Germany next month. That may be the only reason, but Tesla may also be bringing the Semi to Europe to begin work on making it compliant with European trucking regulations as it kicks off production plans at its Berlin Gigafactory.
