What caused the Ambulnz data breach?
The Ambulnz data breach was only recently announced, and we expect to hear more in the near future. However, Ambulnz's filing with the California Attorney General provides important information about what led up to the breach. Ambulnz also posted a website notice explaining the incident.
According to these sources, on April 22, 2024, Ambulnz was notified of unusual activity within its IT network. In response, Ambulnz secured its systems and notified law enforcement agencies, after which it launched an investigation to learn more about the incident.
Through this investigation, Ambulnz learned that between April 21, 2024 and April 22, 2024, an unauthorized third party gained access to its computer network. During this time, the unauthorized third party accessed and downloaded certain files. On May 7, 2024, Ambulnz learned that some of these files contained sensitive patient information. Affected patients included individuals transported by Ambulnz, as well as patients within the Jefferson Health, Main Line Health, Mount Sinai Health System and UCHealth health systems.
