Hospital staff have asked for help identifying the man, who is unable to speak and cannot give his name. USA Today published an article with his photo.
The article said, “The patient cannot provide his details or any other information that could lead to his identification. Staff cannot provide any further information about his health status.” Almost half a year has passed since publication, but there has been no response.

Everything changed a few days ago, when a woman approached the sheriff of a California county and asked to remain anonymous, saying she recognized her brother from a newspaper photo. I hadn't seen my brother since he disappeared in 1999.
“The family will stay together.” A happy ending to the exploration
According to the article, officers contacted the hospital where the man was scheduled to be admitted, but discovered that he had been transferred to another facility. However, the patient was soon discovered.
“A second hospital confirmed that an unidentified male, unable to speak, matching the missing person's description was receiving care,” police said. Detectives from the Los Angeles Missing Persons Unit responded to the scene and took fingerprints from the man, who confirmed that he was the same person who disappeared in 1999.
“We contacted the woman again and advised her that we were able to confirm that the man who was found was her brother. The family plans to gather soon,” the California Sheriff's Office said in a statement.
