Bartosz Klimchuk from the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) told TVN24 BiS, by law, we have 14 days to return goods bought online, “with a few exceptions”. He noted that we do not return unwanted gifts, including food or clothing.
– This is a very hot period when it comes to returns, the period after Christmas. It should be noted here that consumers should know that these 14 days are 14 days after receiving the package from the courier or locksmith, and not the moment of the gift to us, – explained Klimchuk.
He added that according to the regulations, there are goods that cannot be returned even before the expiry of the 14-day period. – One of the exceptions is personal clothing, for example, embroidered socks, jewelry or even sewn clothes, – he noted.
– Food and products that lose their properties after opening, such as contact lenses, cannot be returned, – he continued. It is interesting that it is not possible to return vouchers or tickets that have a specific expiration date.
“Stores extend this deadline”
– Sometimes other situations happen because this is a very specific holiday season. Some stores extend the term (return of goods – ed.) up to 30 days and sometimes even up to 100 days. We need to find out and ask the person who gave us the gift how much time we have to return it, – emphasized the guest of TVN24 BiS.
He added that the information about how long it takes for us to return should be published in the store's regulations. – I know that reading the regulations can cause various problems, because sometimes they are written in legal language, but these main issues can certainly be determined, – he noted.
He also explained that the situation is different in the case of purchases in stationary stores, that “the return depends only on the goodwill of the owner and the regulations of the store.” – Therefore, before buying in a stationary store, it is necessary to familiarize yourself with these rules, – he concluded.
