Indian singer Arijit Singh and American singer Taylor Swift are locked in a fierce battle for the title of Spotify's most followed artist, and the battle has been going on for a while now, keeping fans of the artists on edge as the numbers shift quickly.
Singh has now overtaken Swift as the most followed artist on the music streaming platform. With a staggering 117.2 million followers, Singh takes the title with 21,000 more followers than Swift, but Swift far surpasses Singh in monthly listeners.
Swift currently comes in second with 117.18 million followers, followed by Britain's Ed Sheeran with 115.01 million followers. Other artists on the list include Ariana Grande in fourth place with 98 million followers and Billie Eilish in fifth place with 96 million followers.
In August 2023, Singh briefly overtook Swift for the top spot. However, Swift quickly bounced back. Singh gained attention by becoming the first Indian musician to cross the 100 million mark in followers on Spotify. Apart from Singh, AR Rahman, with 49 million followers, is the only other Indian artist to make it into the top 20.
Swift released a studio album titled “The Tortured Poets Department” this year which became a hit among fans, while Singh has had back-to-back success with releases like “Sajini” by Laapataa Ladies, “Satyanaas” and “Tu Hai Champion” by Chandu Champion, and “Thainu Khabar Nahi” by Munjya.
