Matthew Dominik has stunned everyone with his photos of a “single lightning strike” over Southeast Asia, and they're sure to leave you mesmerized.
Matthew Dominic, aboard the International Space Station (ISS), often wows his followers with amazing photos taken from space. His latest post certainly fits into that category: a beautiful shot of the Earth from space. What's interesting is the “single lightning strike” that can be seen in the photo.

“The green lights of Southeast Asian fishing boats, city lights, the rising sun and a streak of lightning that looks like a nebula on the left side of the frame. I set my camera on an intervalometer to capture the lightning. I found this at the end of a sequence of about 1000 photos,” the astronaut wrote when posting the photo.
He added a close-up photo in a follow-up post on the same X thread: “The way the lightning is lighting up the clouds looks like a nebula to me (left side of large image above),” he wrote.

The video has been viewed over 74,000 times and has attracted nearly 800 likes, with X users enthralled by the post and leaving various further comments.
“Matthew, you take some amazing photos over there,” praised one user from X. “I know you want to come home one day but I hope you don't stop taking photos and sharing them with us! You have a great talent in this field and we're going to miss you when you come home,” added another.
A third commented: “I was fascinated by the stars visible through Earth's atmosphere but couldn't recognise any constellations,” while a fourth wrote: “Can you take a photo of the moon please?”
U.S. Navy Commander Matthew Dominick joined NASA a few years ago and is scheduled to launch to the International Space Station in March and return after a stay of about six months.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of San Diego and a Master of Science in Systems Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School.
