A 40-year-old man was tragically attacked by a shark off the coast of Australia. Despite rescue efforts, the predator's bite was fatal. The entire incident was witnessed by the family of the man who was fishing with the man.
The tragedy occurred off the coast of Australia's Great Keppel Island on Saturday afternoon. Emergency services were called to Keppel Bay Islands National Park, about 18 kilometers off the Queensland coast.
“A 40-year-old man was bitten by a shark while fishing with his family,” a Queensland Police spokesperson said in a statement. A medical helicopter headed to the scene.

According to local media, the man suffered serious neck injuries and could not be saved despite prolonged resuscitation efforts.

As the Daily Mail points out, this is the most tragic in a recent series of shark attacks off the coast of Australia. In early December, a 60-year-old fisherman was attacked near Curtis Island.
However, he only sustained minor and moderate injuries to his forearm, and witnesses to the incident gave him first aid before paramedics arrived on the scene.

In late October, a 57-year-old woman was bitten by a shark while snorkeling in the ocean. She suffered two bite wounds about 30 centimeters long on her calf.
Witnesses administered first aid to the woman and helped the Royal Australian Navy bring her back to the mainland.
