A 51-year-old man and his 22-year-old son died while descending from the summit of Roskopf in Tyrol, Austria. As a result of the avalanche, both were dragged under a thick layer of snow.
The tragic event occurred on the second day of Christmas. The 51-year-old, his two sons aged 22 and 19, and their friend headed to Roskopf, an Alpine mountain seven kilometers from the town of Wörgl.
As they began their descent, an avalanche occurred, engulfing the father and his 22-year-old son.

Journalists from the Rosenheim24.de website say that the brother and his 19-year-old friend miraculously escaped tragedy. They successfully called for help from rescue teams, who immediately began a search operation.
In total, a helicopter, 33 mountain rescue workers and specially trained dogs were sent to the scene.

A young man was the first to be discovered. The 22-year-old man who died was covered in nearly two meters of snow. Rescuers arrived at the 51-year-old man just 20 minutes later, but despite attempts to resuscitate him, he too could not be saved.
Threatening message after tragedy
The two surviving men are under the care of a crisis intervention team and a psychologist. As a result of this tragedy, authorities have issued a message warning of severe avalanche danger across the Alps. Tourists were asked to be especially careful and avoid potential threats as much as possible.
At 1,731 meters high, Mount Roskopf, located in the Kitzbühel Alps, 7 kilometers south of the town of Wörgl, is one of the highest mountains in the region. It is a popular tourist destination, with many roads that experts describe as “easy to walk.'' It is a destination for snowshoe tours and an attraction for skiers.
