Finland’s public broadcaster Ale reported that NATO member countries cooperating with the Joint Expeditionary Force will send up to 10 troops tasked with protecting the Baltic sea floor. Their goal is to increase oversight of underwater infrastructure.
The Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) is a UK-led multinational military partnership that can operate independently of NATO, but also has the ability to support North Atlantic Alliance operations.
In addition to the UK, the initiative includes Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden.

However, it is known that this group will consist of both troops sent to the Baltic Sea and those already stationed there as part of NATO operations. The group plans to stay at sea until April.
Eele emphasized that NATO had decided to increase its presence on December 30th. Finland and Estonia, among others, requested the alliance’s assistance over possible sabotage or damage to submarine cables connecting European countries.
