Large tech companies like Salesforce and Google have recently announced job cuts due to artificial intelligence, but this has created an opportunity for AI-focused startups and companies to poach the affected talent.
AI is expected to replace tens of millions of jobs over the next few years, according to the World Economic Forum, but many, like Jonathan Chu, engineering director at Rapid Robotics, say it's the hottest area for job growth.
“New jobs will be created by the AI industry,” Chu said. “New jobs will be created to drive and support the AI industry. Jobs that we could never have imagined before will be created because of AI technology.”
Joint Ventures CEO Russell Hancock said workers with such skills also had a negotiating advantage.
“If you can do that, this is the city for you. You can say your price and it clicks,” he said. “If you can't do that, it's getting harder to get hired, even in the tech industry.”
