A long-term strike by an employee of the city’s cleansing department in Birmingham has blocked the city’s streets through a pile of garbage. Residents have complained about “a rat bigger than a cat” and opposition parties are calling for the launch of a Cobra procedure.
The protest that has been ongoing for almost a month over planned changes to the structure of employee positions and higher pay requirements for waste exports is the reason for blocking local roads with bags of waste in the UK’s second largest city.

17,000 tons of waste cause nasty odors and attracts insects and rodents. Therefore, Conservative members are calling for the government to convene a meeting at the Cobra (Cabinet Office Briefing Room).
“A mouse bigger than a cat.” deratizers rub their hands
William Tims, the expert cited by the BBC and CNN to fight rats, defines a pile of garbage as “five star restaurants” of a hordes of Rodozoni that are over half a metre in length.

He also warns that even after removing waste, the problem can remain as uninvited guests can grow in local residents’ homes and cars. The media has increased interest in removal services by about 60%.
“They have never seen them,” residents told Sky News journalists, and “the smell prevents the windows from opening.” The risk of infectious disease transfer has also increased dramatically.
Negotiations are underway, but we cannot see the end of the crisis
The central and local governments have hired experts to deal with the crisis situation, and the city council is negotiating with strikers, but the end of the deadlock is not seen.
