The trial of Piotr M., who is accused of the accident that occurred in May 2023 in Bksicka (Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship), has ended. At that time, five people died while returning from a wedding.
As a result of the accident on highway number 9, five people died: three men aged 19, 43 and 72 and two women aged 18 and 38. A 16-year-old boy traveling in a Fiat was taken to the hospital.

In his final speech, the prosecutor Rafal Shvistak emphasized that all the evidence points to the sole guilt of the accused. Piotr M. He was driving under the influence and had more than 1.1 ppm of alcohol in his blood. Tests showed the presence of cocaine and marijuana in his body. The driver was traveling at an estimated speed of 190 km/h, well over the speed limit, which meant he was at least 97 km/h over the speed limit.

– This made any reaction impossible. The Fiat driver had no chance to avoid the accident. Excessive speed and drunkenness of the accused caused this tragedy, he said.
He emphasized that, according to experts, wearing seat belts of passengers has nothing to do with the consequences of the accident – only the manner of their death will change.
The prosecution is asking for 14.5 years in prison
The prosecutor’s office requested 14.5 years of imprisonment, a lifetime disqualification from driving and compensation for the victims’ relatives.
The representative of the family of the victims, lawyer Mateusz Brzezinski, emphasized that the apology of the accused is known at the final stage of the trial. – He treats them as procedural opportunism, huge cynicism, – noted Brzezinski. – Ernest, who miraculously survived, lost his entire family. It is difficult to express this tragedy in words, he added.

Lawyer Julius Duda accused the law enforcement authorities of not explaining the circumstances of the incident, including the role of the white bus that could have played a role in the accident.
He also claimed that the evidence was incomplete and that the trial was political in nature. After the accident, the then Minister of Justice, Zbigniew Ziob, announced tougher penalties for the perpetrators of fatal accidents and legal changes to facilitate the use of pretrial detention in such cases. Duda also pointed to gaps in the autopsy documents and questioned the findings about the speed of both the vehicles.

Defense lawyers claimed that the Fiat driver also broke the rules because there were not six people in the car, not five.
Peter M., who was present in the courtroom on Tuesday and listened to the indictment with his head. He announced that he did not want to be brought to the sentencing, which should be announced on February 3. – I would do a lot to prevent this from happening. You can’t turn back time, he said, maintaining his defenders’ version of his innocence.
