On Wednesday, Brazil's federal police released another message about plans to assassinate Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. The attackers were supposed to prepare a document called “The Green and Yellow Dagger” which detailed the attack plans. Four soldiers were arrested.
In 2022, leftist Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva narrowly edged far-right President Jair Bolsonaro, who was seeking re-election. At that time, the left-wing politician won the election and won 51 percent of the votes. It was then, before Lula took power, that a coup was planned.
According to the statement, the document prepared by the attackers, entitled “Green and Yellow Dagger”, which consists of 221 pages, includes, among other things: nicknames of military participants – participants of the conspiracy. Each nickname is the name of a country.
Based on this statement, the main organizer of the planned attack on the newly elected president was General Mario Fernandez – the advisor of the government of the former president Jair Bolsonari. The general later worked as the interim general secretary of the Office of the President of the State.

They wanted to use poison
The attackers intended to use poison, which would make it look like a natural death. They expected that “given the frequent visits to the hospital and the ailments the newly elected president was suffering from, this would not raise any suspicions,” the press release said.
The investigation by the Federal Police revealed that the military conspirators also planned to kill Alexandre de Moraes, a judge of the Federal Supreme Court. He is said to have been poisoned or killed by an explosive device during an official reception.
On Tuesday, the federal police arrested four special forces officers on suspicion of participating in the assassination of the president-elect.

According to previous investigations, the attackers planned to complete their operation on December 15, 2022.
Commenting on the latest announcement by the Brazilian Federal Police, the newspaper “New York Times” writes that those arrested “have a high level of technical and military skills necessary for the preparation of an assassination.”
The American newspaper interviewed former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro's lawyer, Paolo Cunha Bueno, who said that “his client was not involved in the conspiracy or knew about it.”
He became president for the third time
Lula da Silva won the 2002 presidential election as the candidate of the Workers' Party over Jose Serra of the Social Democratic Party of Brazil, winning 61 percent of the vote. He started this position on January 1, 2003. He was re-elected in the October 29, 2006 elections with 60 percent of supporters and was president until December 31, 2010.
After a break of more than a decade, in the second round of elections in 2022, Lula defeated the incumbent president and became the president of Brazil for the third time on January 1, 2023.
