LAS VEGAS – Caio Borrallo is done predicting his next bout with UFC middleweight champion Drix du Plessis.
“I can't believe how bad he is,” Borrallo (17-1 MMA, 7-0 UFC) previously said, wondering how du Plessis (22-2 MMA, 8-0 UFC) continues to win, after du Plessis most recently defended his title by submitting Israel Adesanya at UFC 305.
Sean Strickland (29-6 MMA, 16-6 UFC) has been viewed as a possible next title challenger for du Plessis, and if the two were to face off against each other, Borrallo predicts Strickland would win.
Or is that the case?
“I predicted Strickland would win this fight, maybe because I think he won the last fight, but maybe he had a little bit more room inside the Octagon,” Borrallo told reporters, including MMA Junkie, after UFC on ESPN 62. “But MMA is crazy. I always bet on Dorricus and he always wins, so I'm not betting on the next fight. If those guys destroy themselves, I'm next.”
Borrallo emerged as a top middleweight contender after beating former title challenger Jared Cannonier in Saturday's UFC on ESPN 62 main event at the UFC Apex.
He believes he has earned his chance at a title fight, but he plans to fight the top-ranked fighter in the middleweight division to establish himself as the number one contender.
“I definitely want to fight for the title, but I'm a company guy,” Borrallo said. “Whoever Hunter (Campbell) and Dana (White) put me against, if they're a better guy than me or if it's a fight I deserve, a fight that will get me closer to the belt, then I'll take it, because I'm a company guy.”
