The opening of the new facility in Walton Hills marks a continuing commitment to expanding U.S. warehousing capacity and modernizing operations.
DUBLIN, Ohio, Aug. 21, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Cardinal Health (NYSE: CAH) today announced plans to open a new distribution center in Walton Hills, Ohio to support its U.S. medical product and distribution operations. The facility will integrate new technology solutions, provide operational efficiencies and expand capacity in the Cleveland, Ohio area. Construction is underway and the distribution center is expected to be fully operational in spring 2025 and will be approximately 249,000 square feet, more than 30 percent larger than Cardinal Health's existing facility in Solon, Ohio. The larger building and operations will accommodate a full transition of employees.
“Northeast Ohio is a major healthcare hub and a key market that our medical products and distribution business has served for more than 25 years. This distribution center features technology and automation that will improve the quality of service for our customers and our employees' daily work experience, as well as additional storage capacity that is essential to meet our customers' growing needs,” said Sherrick O'Ree, vice president of central region operations.
Next-generation technology integrated into buildings improves workflows and allows medical products to move more efficiently through the building, enhancing the customer's order-to-delivery experience. Automation working in collaboration with employees increases productivity and performance while reducing the risk of ergonomic injuries.
“Cardinal Health is investing in a state-of-the-art building in a prime location,” said Walton Hills Mayor Don Collograf. “We are excited to welcome the company to the new Forward Innovation Center (East) Industrial Park, a revitalized development space for modern manufacturing and distribution operations in Northeast Ohio. We look forward to working with their team to make Walton Hills a key region for Cardinal Health's expansion in Ohio.”
Cardinal Health's investment in new facilities is part of a larger strategy to best serve its healthcare customers and the patients who receive their care. The expansion of its medical product and distribution footprint in the U.S. and the introduction of new technology solutions demonstrate the company's continued focus on infrastructure, warehouse operations and supply chain resiliency. In 2023, Cardinal Health will open two new distribution centers in central Ohio to support its U.S. medical product and distribution and home solutions businesses, and a new medical product replenishment center in Montgomery, New York, enhancing on-hand inventory levels and the ability to rapidly replenish its distribution network. In late 2024, Cardinal Health will celebrate the recent opening of a new distribution center in the Boston, Massachusetts area, providing expanded warehousing capacity and specialized handling capabilities for products that require refrigeration.
