CenterWell Home Health kicked off its 20th annual food fundraiser benefiting the local community from Wednesday, Aug. 21 through Saturday, Sept. 21 to provide nutritious meals to those in need.
Over the years, the company has donated more than 1.3 million total meals to those in need, with all items collected being donated for distribution in the community through the Full Tummy Project and Christian Service Centers in Covington.
“According to Feeding America, 5.5 million seniors aged 60 and older faced hunger in 2021 – 1 in 14 seniors and 7.1% of all seniors. Food insecurity can have serious effects on the health and nutrition of seniors, increasing their risk of disease or exacerbating existing medical conditions,” CenterWell's press release stated.
CenterWell will be collecting food and funds to donate to two local nonprofits during this time: The food fundraiser will be held on Saturday, September 14th from 10am to 2pm at the Andalusia location.
All nonperishable donations are welcome, and high demand items include low-sodium meals, boxed dinners, peanut butter and jelly, canned goods, Pop-Top ravioli, Pop-Top Vienna sausages, mini boxes of cereal, Slim Jims, individual packets of snacks, Pop-Top Beanie Weenies, applesauce cups and small cans of Pringles.
Food and funds will be collected through September 21. Donors can also make monetary donations at CenterWell. Items can be dropped off at the CenterWell Andalusia branch from 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday, through September 21.
“As an organization serving local seniors, we know firsthand the challenges they face. CenterWell wants to ensure that the most basic element of health — food — is within reach of everyone. Please help us show your support for our community by collecting and spreading the donations,” the statement continued.
CenterWell Home Health is located at 1512 East Three Notch Street in Andalusia.
