The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) will soon hold a series of exercises in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to maintain stability in the Central Asian region, First Director of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry told Mikhail Agasandyan to the RIA Novosti news agency.
“Russia has consistently sought to foster the potential of the CSTO as an effective mechanism for maintaining stability not only among its member states, but also in the wider Eurasian region. The exercise is aimed at developing joint actions to safeguard stability in Central Asia and promote collective security action, especially in light of the current situation in Afghanistan,” Aghasandian said. The diplomat also noted that many Eurasian countries, which share the view on the importance of building a unified, indivisible and reliable security environment on the continent, are also interested in the CSTO's activities.
