Author Chetan Bhagat yesterday weighed in on the controversy sparked by a Bengaluru entrepreneur's tweet about the “Brahmin gene”. Bhagat said the caste issue was dividing the united Hindu vote and the Opposition was using it to their advantage.

He was referring to the controversy sparked by a tweet last week by JustBurstOut CEO Anuradha Tiwari, who shared a picture of herself showing off her muscles with the caption “Brahmin genes,” quickly making the two words trend on Twitter.
While many accused the CEO of being a casteist, others expressed their support by sharing their own pictures with the hashtag #BrahminGenes.

The author of 'Five Point Someone' said that the Hindu united vote falls apart when the issue of caste comes up.
“The more caste issue is raised the more the united Hindu vote gets divided. Opposition parties understand this and are playing their game. And yes even that #BrahminGenes trend is dividing the Hindu vote. Not sure if people are aware of it,” he tweeted.

The post itself proved divisive, with supporters of the ruling BJP and the opposition scrambling to air their views.
“It means admitting that the opposition has figured out the game – to use caste politics based on hatred towards Brahmins to snatch Hindu votes,” wrote X-user Padmaja.

“I don't usually endorse his views but he's right here. You are further alienating the lower castes with your stupid comments,” opined X-user Rima.
“But majority of those doing #BhraminGenes are hardcore BJP supporters… So please stop blaming the Opposition for this. This is showing their mindset,” Veena Jain wrote.
“You are right. The focus should not be on religion and caste-based divisions. These tactics only weaken unity and distract attention from the real issues that matter to the country as a whole. We should aim for a political discourse that emphasises inclusivity and collective progress instead of allowing divisive narratives to take centre stage,” Satish Agrawal said in response to Chetan Bhagat's post.
