At least 53 people were killed and 63 injured in the Tibet earthquake. The tremors were also felt in neighboring countries. Its magnitude was 6.8, according to China’s Seismology Center, and 7.1, according to the American Earthquake Agency.
The earthquake in Tibet began on Tuesday morning local time. The epicenter of the shaking was: 9:05 a.m. local time (2:05 a.m. Polish time) – It was located at a depth of 10 kilometers in Tingri district, about 150 kilometers southwest of the Tibetan holy city of Shigadze.
China’s Seismology Center said the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.8. But the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said the quake could have been even stronger, reaching a maximum magnitude of 7.1. Similar sentiments were felt in neighboring Nepal and India.

Photos and videos showing the extent of the damage after the earthquake are posted on social media. It depicts destroyed buildings and vehicles covered in rubble.
Earthquakes are common in this region, which lies on a major geological fault where the Indian plate is pushed into the Eurasian plate to form the Himalayas.
