COUSHATTA, La. (KSLA) – CHRISTUS Health has opened a new pediatric clinic in Coushatta.
The facility, CHRISTUS Kids Clinic, opened on Friday, Aug. 23. It is located in the CHRISTUS Coushatta Health Care Center, 1633 Marvel St. The facility is funded by the CHRISTUS Foundation Shreveport-Bossier and is run with community donations to Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.
“That's really part of our mission, especially in rural communities,” said Brandon Hillman, administrator of CHRISTUS Coushatta Health Care Center. “We believe that our role as a health care provider in rural communities is to provide as many services to the community as we can.”
“Every dollar donated provides pediatric patients with the care and support they desperately need now, so they can realize their potential tomorrow,” said Florence Bethard, CHRISTUS Foundation Executive Director.
The new clinic will serve children from newborns to age 21. Physical, occupational and speech therapy will be provided twice a week, with the potential to expand as demand increases.
“We decided to open in Coushatta because there is a large population in rural towns that doesn't have pediatric care or services outside of the school system,” said Lisa Hooper, outpatient clinical supervisor for physical medicine and rehabilitation at CHRISTUS Shreveport-Bossier Health System. “We saw a need and wanted to meet that need and help the community.”
Coushatta resident Reilly Hardy has long been a strong supporter of the idea of a pediatric clinic in the area, and hospital officials said her 12-year-old daughter, McKenna, has been a patient at CHRISTOS' Shreveport-Bossier facility for many years.
“Opening a clinic in Coushatta is something we've wanted to do for years,” Hardy said. “As a mother, I've been advocating for this to happen, not only for myself, but for all the other mothers and children in Coushatta who would benefit from this.”
The Foundation will match donations to make construction of the new facility possible. Click here to donate online.
“We are pleased to have this presence at CHRISTOS Kids Clinic,” said Amy Herron, executive director of philanthropy for the CHRISTOS Foundation Shreveport-Bossier. “It's an exciting time and there's a need for services like this. We want the clinic to be innovative and up-to-date with the latest technology, and we rely on donations to do that.”
