A police officer was crushed by a Christmas tree during a lighting ceremony at Bolivar Park in Giraldo, Colombia. The incident happened on Wednesday, the Daily Star reported.
A 30-meter-tall metal tree fell on 19-year-old Kevin Andres Navas. Witnesses reported hearing disturbing sounds as the building sank toward the ground.

A video was posted online showing a witness trying to rescue the man from under the tree. You can also hear the screams of frightened people. At some point, the structure manages to temporarily lift.
The police officer was taken to the hospital in critical condition. He died from his injuries, I read on the Daily Star website.

Girardot Mayor Salomon Said Arias promised to investigate why safety measures failed, and condolences were also posted on City Hall's social media.
“The Mayor sympathizes with the family and their loved ones and stands with them at this moment of deep pain,” we read.
Salomon Said Arias called for an urgent and detailed report on the accident to determine its cause. They also asked for a review to ensure that all structures installed in Girardot are in compliance with regulations.
