Lynn Massey, the eldest granddaughter of the late country music legend Loretta Lynn, has passed away.
Lin's official social media accounts announced the sad news on Thursday, August 22nd.
“Loretta's first grandchild, Betty Sue's daughter Lynn Massey, passed away this week after a long and difficult illness,” the update posted to Instagram and Facebook read. “Our family is so grateful for all the prayers and love that has been extended to us.”
Lynn's team's announcement included a photo of Massey standing in front of a shelf where a photo of her grandmother was proudly displayed. In the undated photo, Massey appears to be wearing a colorful apron over a blue, short-sleeved, plaid T-shirt, with his hands clasped behind his back and flashing a broad smile for the camera.
Other than mentioning Massey's “long health battle,” the post did not include any specific information about her exact cause of death or how long she had been suffering from her health issues. Details about the exact place and time of Massey's passing were not immediately released.
Massey was the daughter of Betty Sue, one of Lynn's six children. Massey was 64 when she died, according to Al.com. Betty Sue, who was the same age, also died in July 2013 after a battle with emphysema, according to the Associated Press.
News of Massey's passing prompted an outpouring of condolences on social media from the country music star's fans, including fellow singer Jewel, who responded to the announcement on Instagram, writing, “Sending you lots of love…”
Massey's death comes just two years after the “Coal Miner's Daughter” singer passed away at the age of 90. Lynn “passed away peacefully” in her sleep at her Tennessee ranch on Oct. 4, 2022, her family said in a statement at the time.
