DC Connected Car has raised €2.1 million ($2.29 million) for its artificial intelligence (AI)-powered remote vehicle diagnostics service.
The seed funding round, announced in a blog post by the German company last week, will help DC Connected Car develop AI diagnostic tools for roadside assistance, warranties and repairs.
“AI has the potential to revolutionize the various automotive segments in which Borusan operates, including aftersales, fleet and used car businesses,” said Timo Kirp of Borusan Ventures, which participated in the funding round.
“We see great potential for DC Connected's AI-driven digital technicians to speed up the diagnosis and repair of vehicle issues, further enhancing customer service.”
DC Connected Car offers a virtual technician platform that aims to alleviate the skilled labor shortage in the automotive industry, according to a blog post.
“Unlike traditional diagnostic systems, our AI-powered solution provides automated, intelligent insights into vehicle health and performance, and offers real-time problem-solving recommendations,” the post reads.
“This approach not only minimizes the need for physical inspections and repairs, but also integrates seamlessly into our customers' lives by offering remote support.”
As PYMNTS wrote last month, the funding round comes at a time when AI is unlocking potential across the entire automotive industry.
“This technology has the power to transform every area of automotive design, manufacturing and customer experience,” the report said.
“Generative AI can significantly reduce time to market by enabling rapid design iterations, virtual testing and optimization of manufacturing processes. It can also enhance personalization, improve safety features and support the development of autonomous vehicles.”
But the report adds that widespread adoption of AI faces challenges, including accurately predicting performance metrics and ensuring the manufacturability of AI-generated designs, as well as navigating the ethical and regulatory environment surrounding concerns about data privacy and security of the technology.
AI is also helping transform the experience of buying and selling cars, Steven Silver, managing director of automotive, transportation and mobility at Publicis Sapient and Publicis Groupe, said in an interview with PYMNTS earlier this year.
“Many companies are currently exploring the potential of AI to enhance their operations,” says Silver. “When integrated and scaled, AI will have a profound impact on the mobility industry. But business leaders must be open to experimentation with AI — it's important to seize the opportunity now, rather than waiting for it to be perfected and adopted at scale.”
He told PYMNTS that he envisions two ways AI can improve customer experience: through predictive maintenance and in-car personalization, and by removing friction from the car-buying process by providing auto dealers with market behavior data based on purchasing patterns across an array of data points.
