It's been a busy few weeks in American politics since Kamala Harris replaced Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee.
On Tuesday, she picked Tim Walz, the Minnesota governor, former congressman, teacher and Army veteran, as her running mate.
Also on the list were Governors Josh Shapiro and Andy Beshear of Pennsylvania and Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona.
The BBC asked Democrats what they thought about the choice.
Latim Simon Peter, 33, Minnesota
Peter had considered backing a third-party candidate in November when Biden was still in the lead, but has now fully endorsed Harris-Waltz.
First of all, it's great to have a candidate in Minnesota and everyone here was hyped yesterday.
He's great for the country because he doesn't bring too much baggage with him, and it's probably safer that way.
When Biden was the candidate, I struggled a lot and was even considering voting for a third party, but with Harris on the list, it gives me the option to vote for the candidate I want to vote for.
On a typical day, under normal circumstances, this should be a very simple and easy choice for the American people, given the former president's record, but Trump supporters vote and attend rallies, so this should not be taken for granted.
Let’s hope Harris and Walz can keep up the momentum.
Vaughn, who grew up in a Republican household but votes Democratic, said she would like to see Walz debate J.D. Vance, Trump's running mate.
He's been a teacher for 20 years and is a rural Democrat, I'm a teacher and a rural Democrat, he's an IVF parent and I'm an fertility treatment parent too.
He's a great choice, and I think he's going to bring a lot of energy to the campaign because he has a lot to offer.
The Harris-Waltz pairing would be a very tough competition to the Trump-Vance pairing.
I would love to see a debate between two vice presidential candidates, someone who actually comes from rural America and still farms, versus someone who left the country as soon as he could, got an Ivy League education, and then profited from it.
Rural communities have had a really tough time under the Trump administration. We lost the child tax credit, IVF has been under attack since Roe was repealed.
This gives hope that someone might emerge who will be a strong advocate for an aspect of life that is so close to home for mothers, children and teachers.
Mansfield believes the Harris-Waltz pair will fight to protect women's rights and the LGBTQ community.
What I learned about my running mate is that he has fought for women's right to make decisions about their own bodies (if there were any policies that limited men's right to make decisions about their own bodies there would be riots and rebellions), passed sensible gun control policies, legalized recreational marijuana, passed paid family leave, restored voting rights, and invested $1 billion in affordable housing.
I feel much more hopeful than I did a few weeks ago, when our candidate was a president who clearly lost the mental capacity to stand up to the venom of Trump and his supporters.
I believe Harris and Walz will work hard to find a path towards more humane laws, protect working class people, respect women's rights to make choices about their bodies, and advocate for the LGBTQ+ community.
I'm very excited and looking forward to winning in November.
Tai initially supported Mark Kelly as his running mate, but changed his mind after researching Walz.
It's exciting. Waltz is bringing something to the party that Shapiro isn't doing, and somehow Kelly isn't doing either.
He's a fun, engaging guy who makes a fun interview, and I think his background is something that a lot of Americans can appreciate.
I think she did a really smart thing.
A pro-gun figure might win over people who are very hesitant to vote for an anti-gun Liberal Party, but Walz has a hunting background and has previously received favorable reviews from the NRA.
I really appreciate how hard he worked for our kids, and I love that when he was a teacher he promoted gay-straight alliances and really worked to make sure people had a decent minimum wage.
Kamala and Walz will dominate the Republican Party.
Chandler believes Walz is the perfect choice to shore up Democratic support.
Looking at Walz's policies as a whole, he is a very progressive choice.
I really think it's great that he stood up for unions, and I really appreciate how he fought so hard to make sure kids get free lunches in schools across the state.
He has been a strong advocate of peace in Gaza.
I'm so happy about his selection because even though he's about the same age as Kamala Harris, he's more inspiring and reminds me of my really nice grandpa.
It's good to see someone with such a strong commitment to helping people in need being elected, which is exactly what the country needs right now.
The Harris-Waltz pair represents a broader range of Americans than the Trump-Vance pair, and it's this pairing that makes me more motivated for this election.
Mendenhall said that previously she would have reluctantly voted for Biden and Harris, but now she's excited about the Harris-Waltz pairing.
I was pleasantly surprised. I thought Josh Shapiro would win, but I think Tim Waltz would have been a better choice.
I don't know much about him, but I do know that he's been a really good governor of Minnesota and seems to support progressive values.
I'm cautiously optimistic, and I know it's hard, but when you compare Waltz to Vance, there's really no comparison.
I would love to see a debate between the two of them. I don't know if it will happen, but I'm pretty hopeful.
It is astonishing how the electoral outlook has changed in just a few weeks.
With Biden and Harris, there was essentially no hope of victory, but now there is at least a chance of victory.
