Scientists are anxiously checking climate data for next year. They show that 2024 is likely to be the warmest year since measurements were completed. In this way, the hottest decade in human history will also symbolically come to an end. Dr. Paulina Sobiesiak-Pensko talked about the consequences of these changes on TVN24.
According to Dr. Paulina Sobiesiak-Penzko, director of the Sustainable Development and Climate Policy Program at the Institute of Public Affairs, the measures taken to reduce global warming have fallen short this year. This can be proved by the data that in 2024, for the first time, the global temperature will exceed the limit of 1.5 degrees above the pre-industrial level, he said.
– It turns out that 2024 will be the hottest in history due to average monthly temperatures – said Dr. Paulina Sobiesiak-Penzko in the “WSTAsz i pozna” program on TVN24.
Data collected by the EU's Copernicus Earth Observation Program (C3S) show that the last decade was the warmest on record.
“Seasons Shall Pass”
The expert stressed that climate change can be observed all over the world, but Europe seems to be the fastest warming continent.
– This does not mean that we will never see snow again. It may be there, but it is missing more and more. Seasons will disappear. From four to two: dry and wet – added Sobiesiak-Pensko.
An increase in the Earth's average global temperature will also affect the frequency of extreme weather events, including hurricanes, floods and droughts.
– What we are observing is the instability of the very friendly living conditions of people and animals, which we have become accustomed to during evolution, – concluded the expert.
Among the consequences of climate change, the guest of TVN24 mentioned the increase in food prices. It already affects products such as olive oil, chocolate, vegetables and fruit.
