A new report provides details about Bryan Danielson winning the AEW World Championship in the main event of AEW All In.
At AEW All In, Bryan Danielson defeated Swerve Strickland to win the AEW World Championship. This was the first time Danielson had ever held the title. Due to the stipulations, Danielson would have been forced into retirement if he had lost. Danielson had previously stated that he was somewhat opposed to winning the world title.
Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp (via Fightful Select) reports that Bryan Danielson was “frequently and actively” opposed to winning the title in AEW. That being said, he gave in. AEW founder Tony Khan was allegedly adamant that Danielson eventually win the world title. Sapp writes that Khan wanted Danielson to win the title in the main event of AEW All In.
According to reports, the decision to have Danielson main event Strickland at All In was made at least as early as April. It has also been noted that Will Ospreay was not planned as an opponent for Swerve Strickland. One source noted that Ospreay has a chance to main event the show for years to come.
Sapp also wrote that there was a “Montreal Strikeback” joke to make sure Danielson actually won the bout. As previously reported, Danielson has been training through an injury in recent months.
