PHELPS COUNTY, Neb. (KSNB) – American-owned sustainable aviation fuel company DG Fuels has selected Nebraska as the site for the Midwest’s first aviation fuel production facility. The plant will be built in Phelps County and will produce 193 million gallons of zero- or low-carbon-emission fuel annually, while also meeting American Society for Testing and Materials standards.
Production is expected to begin in 2030, and the company will use cellulosic biomass, in the form of low-value agricultural by-products such as corn stover, as a carbon feedstock, along with various forms of clean hydrogen feedstock to produce near-zero carbon fuel.
DG Fuels says Phelps County is known for its stable farm productivity and bountiful yields, and that converting corn stover into high-value SAF will generate millions of dollars in annual farm revenue. The new facility will also create 650 new jobs.
“Nebraska's Bioeconomy Strategic Plan is focused on delivering value at every level for Nebraskans, our aquifers and the next seven generations that will call this great state home. This project is expected to have an economic impact of approximately $55 billion across the state over the next 30 years,” said Governor Jim Pilen.
