LINCOLN, Neb. — Plan to attend the newest Nebraska Soil Health School on Wednesday, Sept. 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Buffalo Barracks Detachment Room at Fort Robinson State Park, located at the intersection of Soldier Creek Road and U.S. Highway 20.
Hosted by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL), this program brings together experts in soil science, economics and rangeland management. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in a program focused on the goals and objectives of integrated crop and livestock systems that can impact soil health management.
The event will begin with a keynote address by Dale Strickler, an experienced Kansas rancher and internationally recognized agroecologist, author, speaker and consultant. Mr. Strickler has developed highly effective cropping and grazing systems for farms and ranches in a variety of challenging climates and soil types. Mr. Strickler will explore developing alternative systems that address input costs, drought tolerance, ecosystem sustainability and profitability.

Cattle grazing and soil health on pastures: Mitchell Stevenson, Associate Professor, UNL Measuring soil health and carbon markets: Vijesh Maharjan, Associate Professor, UNL and Jessica Grosskopf, Extension Educator, UNL Economics
The afternoon program will include an interactive discussion between presenters and USDA NRCS State Soil Health Specialist Nathan Mueller, followed by a soil health demonstration by USDA NRCS soil scientists and a live rainfall simulator.
A total of 4.5 Certified Crop Advisor CEUs will be offered in the areas of soil and water management, crop management, and sustainability.
