About 40 beaches in the state of Sao Paulo, in the southeast of Brazil, have been closed by the sanitary and epidemiological services due to water contamination from viruses. According to local media, hospitals are overflowing with sick tourists.
As of Monday, the sanitary and epidemiological service has closed more than 20 percent of the beaches of the state of Sao Paulo. These, as noted by the local media, are the most popular areas for swimming in the summer season, which began in December in this country. As revealed by Vanguard TV, research proves the contamination of coastal waters with enteric viruses. Experts explain the spread of viruses in the water with the mass influx of tourists to the state of Sao Paulo during the holiday season, as well as heavy rains and leaks in the water supply and sewerage network of the region.
Travelers with vomiting and diarrhea
The newspaper Folha de S. Paulo expects that as the influx of tourists continues, more swimming areas will be closed.
The newspaper notes that the numerous infections of vacationers are reflected not only in overcrowded hospitals in São Paulo, but also in tourists who complain of vomiting and diarrhea after returning from vacations in the state.
