The Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), focusing on the development of Russia's Far East and its integration into the Asia-Pacific economic bloc, will be held in Vladivostok from September 3 to 6. Organized by the Roscongress Foundation, the event will feature around 100 business events across a range of topics.
“The forum participants need to discuss the future image of the Far East and outline new directions for its development,” said Anton Kobyakov, an adviser to the president of the Russian Federation.
Yuri Trutnev, Deputy Prime Minister and Presidential Plenipotentiary Ambassador to the Far Eastern Federal District of Russia, emphasized the role of the EEF as a platform for developing support measures for the Far East, including the Advanced Development Region, the Free Port of Vladivostok and the Far Eastern Hectare Programme.
“The EEF has become one of the tools for the development of the Far Eastern macro-region,” Trutnev said. “Politicians and business representatives from Russia and several dozen other countries are already well aware that the most important issues concerning the development of the Far Eastern Federal District and the entire Asia-Pacific region are discussed at the EEF.”
Trutnev also stressed the importance of the Eastern Economic Forum against the backdrop of the current geopolitical situation: “The world is currently at a complex stage of development, a new structure of international relations is taking shape, and the Forum is becoming a platform for strengthening international relations,” he said.
EEF’s business programme is divided into thematic blocks aligned with the main socio-economic trends of Russia and its partners in the Asia-Pacific region and other parts of the world.
The “New Contours of International Cooperation” block will focus on multilateral partnerships within organisations such as BRICS, SCO and the EAEU, and will cover themes such as energy transition, digital currency and infrastructure modernisation.
Another key section, “Technologies to ensure our independence”, discusses innovations in areas such as cybersecurity, robotics and the new materials industry.
The “Financial Value Systems” track will focus on intellectual property protection and commercial arbitration in the Asia-Pacific region.
The Eastern Economic Forum will also address domestic Russian issues, such as the development of the Far Eastern Federal District in such spheres as agriculture, tourism, small and medium-sized enterprises and fishing. The “People, Education and Patriotism” program will focus on supporting young people and developing human capital.
The direction “Master Plan: from Architecture to Economy” will consider tools for integrated regional development, and the block “Transport and Logistics: New Routes” will discuss the modernization of the infrastructure framework of the Far East, with particular focus on the development of Northern Sea Routes and regional aviation.
The Eastern Economic Forum will serve as a platform for business meetings between Russian entrepreneurs and their counterparts from China, India and ASEAN countries, as well as hosting events dedicated to cooperation through international organizations and associations, such as the BRICS Creative Business Forum and the APEC International Conference on Higher Education Cooperation.
Delegates and guests will also enjoy a cultural and sports programme including the Falcon Day International Forum, the Far East Street Exhibition and the EEF Sports Games.
TV BRICS is the media partner of the event. The Eastern Economic Forum, which has been held annually since 2015, will see the participation of 2,400 business representatives from 62 countries in 2023.
