One tourist killed and another seriously injured in shark attack in Egyptian resort Marsa Alam
One tourist has been killed and another seriously injured after being attacked by a shark in Egypt’s Red Sea resort Marsa Alam. Local authorities appointed a special committee and ordered the closure of the swimming pool. The nationality of the victim has not yet been disclosed.
Egypt’s Environment Minister Yasmin Fouad announced the incident on Sunday.
“The ministry received reports that two foreign nationals were attacked by sharks in the north of Marsa Alam.As a result of the attack, one person died and the other was injured and was admitted to a hospital in Port Gharib.” said in a statement.

The identity and nationality of the tourists have not yet been revealed. The ministry issued a decision to “raise the alert level” to take measures related to the presence of sharks in the area.

It was also decided to establish an “emergency committee to coordinate and cooperate with the Red Sea Prefecture and relevant authorities to clarify the circumstances of the incident.”
As the Minister stated, “The area will be closed until Wednesday and swimming will be prohibited.”
Local media stress that shark attacks on the Egyptian coast are rare, but have recently begun to increase.

A similar tragedy happened the day before.
The day before, a man was killed by a shark in Australia. As reported by polsatnews.pl, the man went fishing with his family.
At some point, a predator emerged from the water and grabbed him by the neck. Despite rescue efforts, the 40-year-old Australian could not be saved.
