Michal Missan, mayor of Elblag, said: “Due to the raising of the alert level on the Elblag River and the unfavorable forecasts regarding wind direction and rain and snow, I have decided to introduce a flood emergency level.” – The danger level of the river has increased a lot, he told the residents.
– We introduced an emergency flood service in Elblag. We made this decision today at 12.30 pm at the meeting of the urban crisis management group. Michal Missan, mayor of Elblag, said in a post on his social media that the alert level on the river has risen significantly.
“All services are on hold”
At the most sensitive point, Zygmunt August boulevard, the flood protection carpets are laid conservatively. Fire and police services are involved in the events.
At 12.00, the water level of the Elblag River was 625 centimeters – the danger level increased by 15 centimeters. The rise of water is about 3-4 centimeters per hour.
– All services are on standby. Joanna Urbaniak, the press secretary of the Elblag city government, assured that the level of the Elblag river has been continuously monitored since yesterday.
Urbaniak urged residents to be cautious and monitor weather conditions. In emergency situations, people should call the emergency number – 112. There is also a 24-hour crisis management center in Elblag with the following phone numbers: 55 239-30-40, 55 239-30-41.
– The forecast is good. I hope that this situation will definitely improve in the evening. I’m crossing my fingers for that, Missan reassured.
Return of water in the Vislane basin
Due to the phenomenon of so-called backwaters in the Zulawi Wisłań, firefighters placed sandbags on the banks of the rivers in several smaller towns, including: Suchacz.
– The operational group of the provincial commander was sent to Elblag district to support the monitoring of the situation. Provincial resources are on standby. The situation is under control, assured Grzegorz Rozanski, spokesman for the Warmian-Masurian Fire Department.
