The number of registered electric and hybrid cars in 2030 will be 1.48 million. The Ministry of Climate and Environment estimates that the total number of charging points will reach around 87,000 by then.
The Ministry of Environmental Protection on Friday announced the completion of consultations on the national policy framework for the development of the alternative fuel market in the transport sector and the development of the corresponding infrastructure.
The document estimates that the total number of different registered vehicles will be 375,838 in 2025 and 1,512,985 in 2030.
BEV is an acronym for Battery Electric Vehicle – a purely electric vehicle that does not have an internal combustion engine. PHEV is an acronym for Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle – a plug-in hybrid with the ability to charge the battery at home or at a station.
The strategic document on the development of electric cars, which was adopted at the beginning of the PiS government, announced one million electric cars by 2025. Experts have already called this goal ambitious. At the moment, according to the data of the Polish New Mobile Association, there are a little more than 136 thousand cars on Polish roads. electric vehicles (BEV and PHEV).
EU standards for charging stations
The ministry noted that according to the requirements of the European Union’s regulations on the development of alternative fuel infrastructure (AFIR), from the end of 2024, it should be ensured that for each passenger car with a registered battery and light commercial vehicle, 1.3 kW of charging power in places publicly available and 0.8 kW in the case of a plug-in hybrid vehicle.
The document predicts that 23,670 charging points will be available in 2025 and 86,949 in 2030. The total generating capacity of these points is 413,525 and 1,661,736 kW, respectively.

In addition, by 2025, along the main network, at a distance of at least 60 km and at least one 150 kW charging point for passenger cars, 400 kW charging station areas should be established.
By 2027, charging stations with a capacity of at least 600 kW and at least two charging points with a capacity of 150 kW should be built in each direction.
The Law on Electric Vehicles is gradually being phased out
At the same time, the Ministry noted that due to the rapid development of electric vehicles and the increasing use of alternative fuels in the field of transport, as well as the introduction of further standards at the level of the European Union, the decisions included in the Electric Vehicle Act are gradually becoming obsolete.
“The adoption of a new regulation, which continues the concepts on the operation and development of electric vehicles and alternative fuels in Poland, which currently derives from the Electric Vehicles Act, while maintaining compatibility with EU regulations regarding the entry into force of the AFIR regulations” – it was emphasized.
