The College of Engineering ranked 120th in U.S. News & World Report's rankings of the best graduate schools for 2024, moving up one spot from the previous year. The media outlet released its engineering rankings on June 18.
“We are pleased to be included on this list and encouraged by our university's rise in the rankings,” said Acting Dean Indira Chatterjee. “It reflects the high quality of our faculty, staff and students and our commitment to providing a globally competitive education.”
The college is on the brink of expansion, with a new industrial engineering program set to open in fall 2024 and its aerospace program, which currently offers a minor, set to expand to offer additional degrees in the coming years thanks to a $36 million Gillemot endowment announced in fall 2023.
US News compiles its graduate rankings of the best engineering schools based on research activity, faculty resources, academic performance of admitted students, and ratings by other engineering schools and employers. This year's methodology has changed slightly. US News reports that it has incorporated some bibliometric analysis (the application of statistical methods to the study of bibliographic data) and removed the metric of faculty resources for master's students. These changes are largely due to a 2023 American Society for Engineering Education survey.
