Ericsson welcomed the joint statement from the U.S. and Swedish governments committing to further cooperation on advanced wireless technologies, including 6G. The statement, issued on August 6, is the latest bilateral agreement between Sweden and the U.S. to share resources, expertise and technology leadership on new, evolving and future connectivity technologies.
Areas of cooperation include potential funding for 6G, 6G spectrum allocation, introduction of new technologies in existing spectrum bands, global harmonisation of 6G spectrum bands, and development of technologies in line with international standards.
“We intend to regularly engage and focus on cooperation in next-generation communications, including 6G and beyond, as outlined in this vision, for the mutual benefit of the United States, the Kingdom of Sweden, and the broader international community,” the joint statement said.
In mid-April 2024, the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), the Swedish Innovation Systems Agency (Vinnova) and the Swedish Research Council announced a Memorandum of Understanding for a five-year innovation research partnership spanning companies, academia and research institutes.
