During ESPN's College Football Live Season Preview show, analysts Greg McElroy and Sam Acho offered their predictions and projections for the 2024 season, including their preseason predictions for the ACC champion.
Acho picked Clemson as this year's ACC champion.
Clemson has won the conference title seven of the past nine years, including six straight from 2015-2020.
“That's why I'm picking Clemson,” Acho said. “It's been a few years since Clemson had the success they wanted, but I've already talked about their defense, and I think their quarterback, Cade Klubnick, is going to improve a lot after his struggles last year, so I'm picking Clemson to win the ACC.”
Meanwhile, McElroy predicts Miami will win the conference.
The Hurricanes have yet to win an ACC Championship and have only appeared in the conference title game once since joining the league.
“I'm betting on Miami,” McElroy said. “Their biggest issues last year were a bad running back and turnovers by the quarterback. But if you look at it, they had the ball in their racquet in multiple games, and through the first half of the season, few teams in college football played better than them. So, yes, they got a bit of a downtime late, but I think they're going to get some great high school players again this year. Their front seven on defense is great. Their quarterback Cam Ward is good. And on paper, I think they have the best roster. So, I think the Miami Hurricanes will win the ACC.”
The 2024 ACC Football Championship Game is scheduled to air on ABC on Saturday, December 7th at 8pm ET from Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. This fall will be the first to feature 17 ACC football teams and for the second consecutive year, the top two teams based on regular season conference winning percentage will play each other.
Last season, Florida State defeated Louisville 16-6 to win its fifth ACC Championship Game title and its 16th ACC title overall.
FSU and Clemson have won the ACC 12 of the last 13 years.
According to a preseason poll of 170 media voters, FSU was projected to win the 2024 ACC title, while Clemson was projected to finish second in the ACC preseason media poll.
